From hungry stray to much loved adventure buddy in less than a year. Rescued from a rural area in Western Canada with a high incidence of stray and feral dogs, Reggie was picked up as a young adult by the Alberta Spay Neuter Task Force and was then placed in the care of the Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society prior to being adopted by his adoring humans in January of 2016.
In the past 10 months, Reggie has gotten to visit and hike in some of the most beautiful places in Canada including the iconic Banff National Park in the Valley of the Ten Peaks, the Nisga’a Memorial Lava Bed Park, the East Beach Trail of Haida Gwaii aka the Canadian Galapagos and throughout Yoho National Park, Kananaskis Country and various cities across British Columbia.
His humans very much believe that taking on the responsibility of caring for a dog who is as high energy, intelligent and athletic as Reggie means taking the time to work on building a strong training partnership in order to experience as much of the world together as possible.
They take Reggie with them everywhere they possibly can. Their next adventure will take them in their VW Van Gertie from their home in Western Canada all the way down to Sayulita, Mexico this December. They plan to explore everywhere along the way!
Reggie’s lifestyle calls for tough products to keep up with him and Petoji’s adventure collars and leashes are perfect for the job.

Lexus had a rough start to life but now she’s living the good life with her human Crystal. Lexus may technically be a senior (13 years young) and a “small” dog (22 pounds) but she doesn’t let that slow her down or limit her adventures! At home she’s a mellow pup but as soon as Crystal grabs a backpack Lexus is wide awake and ready to go (and won’t let Crystal leave without her!). Outdoors is her happy place and she can often be found running through the forest, jumping over and scurrying under any obstacle in her way (especially in pursuit of a squirrel or bird). These two enjoy spending as much time as possible outdoors and love hiking, backpacking, snowshoeing and camping year round in the Canadian Rockies.

Chewie is a very fun & energetic 2 yr old miniature dachshund born, and raised in Lubbock, TX. He has two parents who love him more than anything, and two cat siblings he loves to pester. He’s a very social, and outgoing character. His favorite things are fetch, and french kissing anyone who will let him. He’s proud to be a west Texas weenie, but he also loves to travel. Chewie has been to six states, and plans on seeing a whole lot more. He’s the best travel/hiking buddy, and our go-to Petoji Mini Leash has made our adventures even easier!
So follow @west_texas_weenie on Instagram, and keep up with the traveling ween!

Adopted at 13, Deer, a Portuguese Podengo Medio, has since lived an entire life again. Born in Portugal, she was imported to the US to hunt, but eventually she was retired, neglected, and dumped. She found herself at a cat rescue in NYC and was expected to live out a few more months.
Now 16 and a super senior, Deer has broken and defied all expectations. She has spent over 200 days on the road, travelled to every single US state and Canadian province East of the Mississippi River – hiking sections of the Appalachian Trail, dipping in each Great Lake, and owning the streets of major cities like Chicago, Toronto, and DC. She’s also learned to be a family member and a well-behaved canine citizen – overcoming resource guarding, separation anxiety, and leash reactivity.
Deer may be getting slower, but she’s nowhere ready to stop. This old soul is always hungry…whether that be food or a new adventure!
Jasper is Deer’s “mini me” and partner in crime (or wishes he was because most of the time he just watches Deer get into trouble). He’s a formerly championed Portuguese Podengo Pequeno show dog, and spent large parts of his first 5 years in his crate or kennel, so he is still learning to just be a dog since his adoption.
Formerly known as “Jittery Jasper” because he was always scared and shaking, it turned out, the outdoors is where Jasper is most himself! When he opens up, he’s an incredibly athletic clown, zooming up and down trails, and bouncing from rock to rock. In one year, he’s travelled with Deer and his human, Angie, to 22 states and 2 provinces, many of them multiple times. Every single trip has brought improvement, happiness, and confidence in Jasper.
More than anything, Jasper is a big dog in a tiny body with serious FOMO (Fear of Missing Out). He’s always ready for what’s next!
Kyzer is a fun and adventurous pup! He lives with his owner in Oregon, exploring its endless beauty. He enjoys going on hikes and seeing the vast landscape that it has to offer. He was adopted as a puppy on 5/8/16, which is his owners birthday! He is a smart, goofy, and energetic pup. He also loves to please his owner but also loves to get into trouble! Kyzer’s favorite activities include going on car rides, playing with his black lab brother, and cuddling with his owner.

Winter is an adventurous one year old husky living in Nashville, TN. She’s spunky, loves to play and adores a good belly rub. We spend most of our time hiking, camping and exploring all over Tennessee. We also love traveling and Winter is such a good road trip pup. Her adventurous spirit is so contagious. When I watch her light up in nature in makes me want to slow down and really take in the moment. She loves to go swimming in the lake and rolling in the snow. She’s taught me so much and shows me a new way of experiencing life every day.

The Life With Mutts gang is a 4-pack of rescued mixed-breed adventure mutts living it up in North Carolina. The pack started with Boomer, a now 5.5 year old Bluetick Coonhound mix, rescued from a backyard breeder. Next came our Border Collie/Lab mix senior pup Helo, who we believe is about 10 years old now. We went to Petsmart to buy dog food for Boomer and ended up bringing her home a new brother from a Petsmart Charities rescue. A year or so after that, we had relocated to Texas and were fostering for Austin Dog Rescue. Our 2nd foster for ADR was Ringo, then named Roux. He was timid and shy, but became instant friends with Boomer, who was about the same age. It was as if they had known each for years and we just knew he was meant to be part of the family. We don’t know the specifics of his past, but it was definitely not an easy one. He was pulled from a rural high-kill shelter in Texas and came to the rescue hairless and terrified of strangers. With lots of love and training, Ringo has overcome most of his fears and now loves new people and pups (with proper introductions).
Our pack remained a trio for a few years, with the addition of foster pups here and there, until this past summer. It was 105 degrees outside and one of our neighbors found this tiny puppy wandering the streets. After about a week, no one had claimed her and his wife was pregnant, so he posted the puppy’s picture in our HOA Facebook group, looking for a foster. We didn’t want to see this tiny pup go to the shelter, so we offered to foster her, though the minute we met her in person, we knew we only had one choice. As soon as I picked her up, Roxie nuzzled her way into my neck and into our hearts. She just turned a year old and is the perfect FINAL addition to our pack.
The mutts like to spend as much time outdoors as possible, hiking, camping and exploring new places. They also love going on road trips, paddle boarding and kayaking. They are an active, happy bunch forever in search of adventure… or a comfy spot on the couch to nap.
